The Changing Nature of Balance
Balance is not a destination. It is a moving target and something we find and lose and find again.
What balance is:
Finding balance is a state of ongoing pursuit. We find it. We lose it. And we keep trying, working mindfully and compassionately with ourselves, as we move through our lives.
Certainly, it’s valuable to look at such important aspects of our daily living as eating, moving, sleeping, working and playing, as we strive for balance.
It’s also really important to address balance in the more subtle, yet equally essential areas of our lives such as breathing, intimacy, finding meaning, and communicating.
What balance is not:
Finding balance is not a destination. It is as messy as we are human, and finding balance is not a “one and done” experience.
Finding balance is not something we “should” pursue. Rather, it is an opportunity life gives us to live healthier, more meaningful, and perhaps longer, lives.
Finding balance is not something anyone else can do for us. It is an inside job born out of commitment and perseverance. Steady wins the race!
